DM Training Halter with Knots and Lead #AH4
Description: This DM Training Halter with Knots and Lead is made with strategically placed knots on the noseband to put more pressure on the nose, when necessary, than a plain rope halter. This pressure makes the signals clearer to your horse. When your horse responds correctly, and you subsequently release the pressure on the lead, the pressure on the nose is released, which is the reward for the correct response from your horse. When no pressure is applied to the lead, the halter is comfortable for your horse.
This halter is made from rope that has just enough body to give you the feel you need for training. The halter is made of 1/4 inch brown braid on braid nylon rope. The 14 ft lead is made of 3/4 inch braid on braid soft nylon rope. The end of the lead is threaded back through itself to double the rope for 6 inches. This short doubled length adds extra weight to the end.
How it works: This halter is firm enough that your horse will feel pressure on its face, especially where the knots contact the face, as soon as a signal is given with the lead. When the pull on the lead is released, the pressure from the halter is released instantly. It’s not so stiff and heavy that it constantly puts pressure on your horse’s nose. This helps keep sensitivity in its nose so your horse can be successfully ridden in a hackamore in the future.
The 3/4 inch rope makes an excellent lead for training. It has enough body to let you place it, wherever you need it, as you’re training your colts. The extra length of this 14 ft lead allows you to stay a safer distance from your horse than a standard lead. It won’t burn the legs of your horse when you use it to carefully pick up its feet. The extra weight of the doubled end allows easier handling of the rope and better accuracy and control when you throw it on your horse’s back or through its legs to desensitize it to rope. Since the end isn’t made of leather it won’t get chewed. The heavy end can also be used to gently pop the horse if it’s lagging when led.
There is a size to fit every horse from weanling to large horse (see dropdown). The size suggestions given are an average for each height.
Putting a good foundation on your horses is essential for their future success. This is an outstanding halter and lead for clearly communicating with your young horses.
