This stylus is the saddlemakers ultimate drawing tool. The handle is covered in very finely braided rawhide, all done by hand, to give a good grip as you work and it also feels great. The stylus is a dull pointed tool, unlike the sharp pointed scratch awl, but is also a great tool to draw the patterns on your leather.
Lacing Fid #TL4
This Lacing Fid is made with a hand braided rawhide handle for an extra good feel in your hand. This is a tool every horseman should own. It makes opening the bled leather on the slotted concho headstalls so easy. You may want to put one in your tack room and another in your trailer, along with your awl, to use when you need to make a repair.
Dog Bone Rawhide Noseband/Tiedown #T2
Description: This Dog Bone Rawhide Noseband/Tiedown is made of 3/8 inch nylon rope with a handbraided rawhide nose. The leather hanger has been edged, hand rubbed, treated with Neatsfoot Oil and hand rubbed again. The buckle is stainless steel with a hand braided rawhide keeper. The leather beneath the buckle is stitched together to keep the buckle in place when you adjust it between horses. The dog-bone is also stainless steel. Shown without a tiedown strap but available with your choice of a #ZG 1 inch or a 3/4 inch Leather Tie Down Strap or a #ZH Nylon Tie Down Strap (see dropdown to order).
How it works: You will like the way the rawhide feels on your horse’s nose and how much better your horse will respond to the rawhide if he’s been pushing on a leather tiedown. This tiedown will hold up to years of hard use.
Straight Breast Collar #BC1
Description: The Straight Breast Collar is made of 1 inch wide harness leather lined with burgundy latigo. I make this breastcollar with a sheepskin lined leather chafe under the ring. The adjustable hold down strap is 3/4 inch wide with 3/4 inch tug straps. The ring, dees, buckles and snap are all beveled stainless steel. The leather is hand edged, hand-rubbed, treated with Neatsfoot Oil and hand-rubbed again. This breast collar is also available in 3/4 inch size for the “petite mare” (see dropdown). This is a top quality, very versatile, handmade breast collar you will be proud to own!
Bill Riddle Sideline #SL2
Description: The #SL2 Bill Riddle Sideline is made of two double and stitched 1 3/4 inch burgundy latigo leather cuffs with easy on/easy off closures connected by your choice of 24, 30 or 36 inch long soft white nylon rope (see dropdown). The rectangles and dees are made of round stainless steel rod.
How it works: This is a very helpful piece of equipment to use when you are sacking out a colt, teaching a young horse to stand hobbled or wanting to keep a horse from kicking in the trailer. You can prevent a horse that kicks in the trailer from hurting himself and kicking apart the trailer by using this sideline on just the left or right side or use two and cross them as with Australian sidelines. Always use caution when putting the sideline on for the first time. Get out in an open sandy arena with lots of room so your colts or horses will be safe if they react to having their legs connected with the sideline. Once horses learn how a sideline feels they usually accept it and stand quietly. Sidelines and hobbles can both have a quieting effect on a horse’s mind.
The first time you use the sideline on your horse or while training the horse to accept it use a wide open sandy area. Do not put it on in the trailer or other confined space until they accept the sideline easily and well.
Scratch Awl #TL3
The Scratch Awl is made with a hand braided rawhide covered handle to give you a good grip and feel good on your hands as you work. This awl is a sharp pointed tool useful for drawing patterns on the leather or a straight line to square a hide. It’s also real useful to mark places to punch holes in leather.
