5/8″ 6 Strand Horse Mane-Hair Mecate #DK5
Description: This 5/8 inch mecate, also called a McCarty, is designed for the hackamore reinsman. This mecate has a firm twist on a horsehair core, good body and yet a very soft hand. Let this 6 strand mecate be your ultimate horse hair rope! It’s 22 feet long. I will be happy to tie this mecate to a bosal if you purchase one but you may need to adjust the number of wraps to fit your horse after you receive it. I have various colors available including sorrels, greys, blacks and whites. Please call for color availability 817-312-5305. If I don’t hear from you, I will choose the color.
How it works: Horse mane-hair mecates are widely used in the California-vaquero tradition. A horse responds to the feel of the horse hair on their neck better than to many other materials. The traditional material and patterns also look exceptionally good on our horses. A superior quality professional mecate.
Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ Reins, Medium Weight #BLL1
Description: I cut these doubled and stitched reins 5/8” wide. I make them in two lengths: 7′ for horses under 14.2 hands and 7’9” for horses over 14.2 (see dropdown for choices). These Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ medium weight reins have very good feel and body.
To make these reins I sew 2 pieces of latigo leather together with small, tight stitches. This makes the reins 9/32nd of an inch thick. All of the work is done by hand. I edge these reins by hand, rub them, oil them and rub them again.
How they work: This is my 43rd year making cowboy tack and I know which leather makes the best reins. I personally choose each hide I use to make sure you’ll have good even contact and communication with your horse. There are no gray signals with these reins.
These are my best selling doubled and stitched reins and are a favorite in the show ring. They will hold their flexibility and shape even in cold weather and they are built to last.
Try a pair; it will be the best pair of doubled and stitched reins you have owned, I guarantee it. Dennis
Rein Stops #ZA
Description: The Rein Stops are made of harness leather and measure 2 inches in diameter. They will fit any of the leather reins made at Dennis Moreland Tack. Reins Stops are made to go on the bit end of your reins and should be put on at the bit end.
How they work: Use these Reins Stops to prevent the rings on a martingale from getting hung up on the ends of your bit or on the bridle rein ends. This is a very good safety tool for very little investment. Sold by the pair.
Round 3/8″ Nylon Mecate #DMR3
Description: This is a nice mecate to use on your 2 rein bosalita or to use at home on any hackamore. The Round 3/8 Inch Nylon Mecate, also called a McCarty, is available in 22 and 24 feet lengths (see dropdown) and is made of round 3/8 inch nylon rope. On average, the 22 foot mecate is built to ride on horses that are under 15 hands while the 24 foot length is built for horses 15 hands and taller. It has a tassel on one end and a popper on the other end. Because of the narrow diameter this is a good rein for smaller hands. The 22 foot mecate comes in tan and the 24 foot comes in brown.
Round Nylon Split Reins #DSB2

These split reins are made of brown 5/8 inch braid-on-braid nylon with 5/8 inch leather poppers at each end.
