DM Harness Leather Split Reins #ASR6
Description: I recommend these reins if you are riding colts or other small horses. These heavy harness leather reins measure 6 1/2 to 7 feet long and 5/8 inch wide. These also are an ideal length if you’re riding in a snaffle, sidepull, sliding gag, or German martingale. They are long enough to have plenty of rein to work with but they won’t drag the ground or get in your way on those colts and horses that are under 14.2 hands.
Crafting: This tight fibered harness leather will last for years of hard use. They are hand edged, hand rubbed, oiled and hand rubbed again for a great feel before they are shipped to you. If you have any questions please feel free to call and we’ll “talk reins”. Dennis 817-312-5305
Five Plait Nylon Hackamore Rein #CHR2
Description: This Texas Style 5 plait hackamore rein is made of very tightly braided, 1/4 inch, solid braid nylon rope. It’s 16 feet long with rawhide ring knots at each end. This rope has been heavily waxed to give it more body and stiffness. This is the ideal rein for the horseman who wants a thicker rein in his or her hand with virtually no stretch.
Round 5/8″ Nylon Mecate #DMR5
Description: If you like a mecate made of densely braided rope with a lot of feel, this is a good one. The Round 5/8 Inch Nylon Mecate is available in 22 and 24 foot lengths (see dropdown) and is made of round 5/8 inch braid-on-braid nylon rope. On average, the 22 foot mecate, also known as a McCarty, is built to ride on horses that are under 15 hands while the 24 foot length is built for horses 15 hands and taller. This mecate has a tassel at one end and 5/8 inch leather popper at the opposite end. A little wider in diameter than the #DMR3 Mecate. This is a great mecate to use on your hackamores and your snaffle bits. It comes in your choice of brown or tri-color (pictured on horse). Make your selection in the dropdown.
Also shown on the horse is the Starting Bosal #HU5.
Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ Reins, Medium Weight #BLL1
Description: I cut these doubled and stitched reins 5/8” wide. I make them in two lengths: 7′ for horses under 14.2 hands and 7’9” for horses over 14.2 (see dropdown for choices). These Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ medium weight reins have very good feel and body.
To make these reins I sew 2 pieces of latigo leather together with small, tight stitches. This makes the reins 9/32nd of an inch thick. All of the work is done by hand. I edge these reins by hand, rub them, oil them and rub them again.
How they work: This is my 43rd year making cowboy tack and I know which leather makes the best reins. I personally choose each hide I use to make sure you’ll have good even contact and communication with your horse. There are no gray signals with these reins.
These are my best selling doubled and stitched reins and are a favorite in the show ring. They will hold their flexibility and shape even in cold weather and they are built to last.
Try a pair; it will be the best pair of doubled and stitched reins you have owned, I guarantee it. Dennis
1/2″ 6 Strand Mane-Hair Mecate #DK3
Description: This mecate has been designed with the true hackamore horseman in mind. Six strands of horse mane-hair have been firmly twisted on a horse hair core to 1/2 inch. It will meet the requirements of refined feel for even the most discriminating reinsman. This mecate, sometimes called a McCarty, is 22 feet long. I will be happy to tie this mecate to a bosal if you purchase one but you may need to adjust the number of wraps to fit your horse after you receive it. There are various colors available including sorrels, greys, blacks and whites. Please call for color availability 817-312-5305. If I don’t hear from you, I will choose the color.
How it works: Horse mane-hair mecates are widely used in the California-vaquero tradition, used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. A horse responds to the feel of the horse hair on their neck better than to many other materials. The traditional material and patterns also look exceptionally good on our horses. This is the ultimate horse hair rope.
