7″ Aluminum Shanked Bit #B9
Description: The 7″ shanks on this bit are made of aluminum which makes it lighter weight than a steel bit. It’s designed so the junction at the mouthpiece and shanks will never pinch a horse. This bit is available with your choice of 7 mouthpieces, all 5 1/8 inches wide (see picture at left). The #0 mouthpiece is made of soft rubber. All others are made of steel with inlaid copper strips to promote salivation. The #1 Correction mouthpiece is 3/8 inch in diameter, remainder are 7/16 inch in diameter.
This bit comes with the #51 3/8 inch Latigo Leather Bit Hobble with hand braided rawhide keepers, shown here.
How it works: The 7″ Aluminum Shank Bit is milder than a steel bit because of its light weight and works well to introduce your colt to a shanked bit from a snaffle or hackamore. This bit allows a soft touch to pull a colt around to teach him to turn and maneuver in a shanked bit. It also works well on many older, finished horses and helps keep them relaxed and light in the face.
Shown with mouthpiece #2B.

To summarize: all spur orders will have 3 numbers: the first is the band, the 2nd is the shank and the 3rd is the rowel. Most spurs are in stock and shipped immediately. In the unusual circumstance that a spur is out of stock, or if you have chosen to have lettering or a brand on your spurs, it will take approximately 6 weeks to make them.
Straight Spur Straps #SS2
Description: This is a great looking spur strap that will fit any budget. These straight spur straps are made of racetrack harness leather which is the toughest and tightest fibered leather I can buy. These are always cut out of the best part of the leather; the back of the side. They have a stainless steel buckle and a leather loop keeper. These spur straps will last for years and come in 3 sizes to fit everyone in the family.
I make thin latigo teardrop covers over the spur buttons so you won’t catch your spur buttons and trip. This is a very important safety feature you won’t find on many spur straps but if you trip while working colts or cattle on the ground you can be badly injured. You can see the button cover in the pictures to the left.
If you order a pair of spurs at the same time I will gladly put the straps on for you.
Men’s: boot size 9 and up $57.49
Women’s: boot size 8 1/2 and smaller $57.49
Grass Hackamore with Reins #HV10
Description: The Grass Hackamore with Reins is made entirely of one-piece of hand-braided 1/2 inch grass rope. The nose button is covered in hand-braided rawhide and the grass rope is spliced wide at the bottom to give more sidepull action. The hackamore has a 3/4 inch leather headstall with double and stitched browband and a 1/4 inch nylon fiador.
How it works: This hackamore gives a little bit stronger signal on the nose, because of the both the texture and the firmness of the braided rawhide, than a soft rope hackamore. This makes it a particularly good hackamore for loping horses that want to be a little strong in a soft rope hackamore. It’s also great to ride colts with because the reins are spliced widely on the base of the noseband to give more lateral direction when a rein is pulled. It can be used for all types of riding on any horse that works well with a fairly mild signal on its nose.
