Latigo Roping Rein with Rawhide Knots #RR23
Description: This latigo roping rein is built with hand braided rawhide knots on each end for easy and quick change-outs between bridles. The end of each rein has a slot that slides over the rawhide knot to attach the rein to the bit. The rawhide and the latigo tassles look great on the ends of this rein!
This rein is 5/8 inch wide and 7 1/2 feet long. The latigo has been hand edged, hand rubbed, oiled with Neatsfoot Oil and hand rubbed again for that great feel in your hands. The slots and rawhide knots allow you to change this rein in a snap and they hold the rein securely after they’re attached.
Also available is my Harness Leather Roping Rein with Rawhide Knots.
Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ Reins, Heavy Weight #BLL2
Description: I’ve worked closely with the same tannery for years to find a thicker hide just for these double and stitched reins. Two pieces of heavy (total of 24 oz.) latigo are tightly stitched together to make this rein 3/8” thick. They’re cut 5/8” wide and in your choice of two lengths; 7′ long and 7’9” long (see the dropdown to choose). I make the 7’9″ length for average size horses. The 7′ length works for those who are training the smaller cutting & cow horse colts and for ranch sorters who keep their horses really gathered up through continuous quick turns.
These are a very heavy rein that allows for superb contact with a horse’s face. My heavy weight latigo on latigo double & stitched reins are more pliable than the harness leather on latigo reins #HL58 but they aren’t too heavy or stiff. If properly cared for, they will last many years. Like all of my reins, they are hand edged and rubbed. The attention to detail and craftsmanship of these reins speaks for itself, I guarantee it. Dennis
Flat Nylon Split Reins #DSB3
Description: These split reins have a very soft feel. They are made of brown 1 inch braided nylon. The reins are 8 feet long with 3/4 inch leather poppers at ends. This is a great rein for riding a tall colt in the snaffle, generally one that is 14.2 or taller. Also easy on the hands for all day work.
1/2″ 6 Strand Mane-Hair Mecate #DK3
Description: This mecate has been designed with the true hackamore horseman in mind. Six strands of horse mane-hair have been firmly twisted on a horse hair core to 1/2 inch. It will meet the requirements of refined feel for even the most discriminating reinsman. This mecate, sometimes called a McCarty, is 22 feet long. I will be happy to tie this mecate to a bosal if you purchase one but you may need to adjust the number of wraps to fit your horse after you receive it. There are various colors available including sorrels, greys, blacks and whites. Please call for color availability 817-312-5305. If I don’t hear from you, I will choose the color.
How it works: Horse mane-hair mecates are widely used in the California-vaquero tradition, used on both hackamores and snaffle bits. A horse responds to the feel of the horse hair on their neck better than to many other materials. The traditional material and patterns also look exceptionally good on our horses. This is the ultimate horse hair rope.
Latigo on Latigo 1/2″ Reins, Medium Weight #BLL4
Description: If you’ve got smaller hands and are looking for a double and stitched rein with body and drape but not too much bulk these are a good choice. At your choice of 7 feet or 7 feet 9 inches in length these Medium Weight Latigo on Latigo 1/2 Inch Reins are my best selling double & stitched reins for ladies and youth with small hands. Because they are light, but drape so well when a horse is shown on a really loose rein, these are also a favorite with reiners. I make the 7’9″ length for average size horses. The 7′ length works for those who are training the smaller cutting & cow horse colts and for disciplines like ranch sorting where horses are shown gathered up through continuous quick turns. Choose the length you prefer in the dropdown.
They are made of a medium weight leather that’s approximately 18 oz. making the reins 9/32nd of an inch thick after I stitch them together. I edge these reins by hand, rub them, oil them and rub them again. This extra hand work adds to their great feel. Every detail I put in their production coupled with the fact I buy only the highest quality hides to make my reins gives you that good even contact with your horses face you’re looking for.
These reins are built to last.
Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ Reins, Medium Weight #BLL1
Description: I cut these doubled and stitched reins 5/8” wide. I make them in two lengths: 7′ for horses under 14.2 hands and 7’9” for horses over 14.2 (see dropdown for choices). These Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ medium weight reins have very good feel and body.
