Five Plait Nylon Hackamore Rein #CHR2
Description: This Texas Style 5 plait hackamore rein is made of very tightly braided, 1/4 inch, solid braid nylon rope. It’s 16 feet long with rawhide ring knots at each end. This rope has been heavily waxed to give it more body and stiffness. This is the ideal rein for the horseman who wants a thicker rein in his or her hand with virtually no stretch.
Braided Grass Hackamore Rein #CHR1
Description: If you’re looking for a hackamore rein that will really help you get a good turning response from your colts this is a good choice. It’s easy for a horse to feel the texture of this Braided Grass Hackamore Rein on its neck which helps it understand neck reining cues. This hand braided grass rein is a smooth solid-braid that’s 1 inch wide x 16 feet long. It has no stretch and has been waxed so it will have a longer life. Note that this rein can be a little scratchy on your hands.
This is a very useful rein to have when you’re training colts or tuning up older horses. This rein really helps your horses learn to respond to pressure. It’s high quality and will last.
Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ Reins, Medium Weight #BLL1
Description: I cut these doubled and stitched reins 5/8” wide. I make them in two lengths: 7′ for horses under 14.2 hands and 7’9” for horses over 14.2 (see dropdown for choices). These Latigo on Latigo 5/8″ medium weight reins have very good feel and body.
To make these reins I sew 2 pieces of latigo leather together with small, tight stitches. This makes the reins 9/32nd of an inch thick. All of the work is done by hand. I edge these reins by hand, rub them, oil them and rub them again.
How they work: This is my 42nd year making cowboy tack and I know which leather makes the best reins. I personally choose each hide I use to make sure you’ll have good even contact and communication with your horse. There are no gray signals with these reins.
These are my best selling doubled and stitched reins and are a favorite in the show ring. They will hold their flexibility and shape even in cold weather and they are built to last.
Try a pair; it will be the best pair of doubled and stitched reins you have owned, I guarantee it. Dennis
Latigo on Latigo 3/4″ Reins, Medium Weight #BLL5
Description: These Latigo on Latigo Double and Stitched 3/4 Inch Medium Weight Reins are a favorite among people with good sized hands. They’re cut 7 feet 9 inches long and are 9/32nd of an inch thick after I tightly stitch the 2 pieces of latigo together. These reins are hand rubbed, oiled and hand rubbed again to give them very good feel and body. As is the case with all my latigo on latigo doubled & stitched reins, these will hold their flexibility and shape even in the coldest weather.
This is a very well made pair of reins that you will appreciate every day you use them.
5/8″ 6 Strand Horse Mane-Hair Mecate #DK5
Description: This 5/8 inch mecate, also called a McCarty, is designed for the hackamore reinsman. This mecate has a firm twist on a horsehair core, good body and yet a very soft hand. Let this 6 strand mecate be your ultimate horse hair rope! It’s 22 feet long. I will be happy to tie this mecate to a bosal if you purchase one but you may need to adjust the number of wraps to fit your horse after you receive it. I have various colors available including sorrels, greys, blacks and whites. Please call for color availability 817-312-5305. If I don’t hear from you, I will choose the color.
How it works: Horse mane-hair mecates are widely used in the California-vaquero tradition. A horse responds to the feel of the horse hair on their neck better than to many other materials. The traditional material and patterns also look exceptionally good on our horses. A superior quality professional mecate.
DM Harness Leather Split Reins #ASR6
Description: I recommend these reins if you are riding colts or other small horses. These heavy harness leather reins measure 6 1/2 to 7 feet long and 5/8 inch wide. These also are an ideal length if you’re riding in a snaffle, sidepull, sliding gag, or German martingale. They are long enough to have plenty of rein to work with but they won’t drag the ground or get in your way on those colts and horses that are under 14.2 hands.
Crafting: This tight fibered harness leather will last for years of hard use. They are hand edged, hand rubbed, oiled and hand rubbed again for a great feel before they are shipped to you. If you have any questions please feel free to call and we’ll “talk reins”. Dennis 817-312-5305
