7″ Aluminum Shanked Bit #B9
Description: The 7″ shanks on this bit are made of aluminum which makes it lighter weight than a steel bit. It’s designed so the junction at the mouthpiece and shanks will never pinch a horse. This bit is available with your choice of 7 mouthpieces, all 5 1/8 inches wide (see picture at left). The #0 mouthpiece is made of soft rubber. All others are made of steel with inlaid copper strips to promote salivation. The #1 Correction mouthpiece is 3/8 inch in diameter, remainder are 7/16 inch in diameter.
This bit comes with the #51 3/8 inch Latigo Leather Bit Hobble with hand braided rawhide keepers, shown here.
How it works: The 7″ Aluminum Shank Bit is milder than a steel bit because of its light weight and works well to introduce your colt to a shanked bit from a snaffle or hackamore. This bit allows a soft touch to pull a colt around to teach him to turn and maneuver in a shanked bit. It also works well on many older, finished horses and helps keep them relaxed and light in the face.
Shown with mouthpiece #2B.
Steel Cavalry Shank Bit #A6
Description: The Steel Calvary Shank Bit #A6 is made of very high strength 4130 grade steel, the joints are smooth, this bit is made to last a lifetime. The hand engraved nickel silver overlaid on the shanks makes this beautiful both in and out of the show arena. This bit is available with your choice of 6 steel mouthpieces, all 5 1/8 inches wide with inlaid copper strips to promote salivation (see picture at left). This is a favorite in many disciplines including cowhorse and is legal in NRCHA competition when a mouthpiece with a minimum 1 inch port with roller is used. The 3 mouthpieces available with rollers or crickets in the dropdown are NRCHA legal. This bit comes with the #BH41 Latigo Bit Hobble shown here.
How it works: This bit is a great step up when you need a little more shank than the #A1 Argentine Bit, the #A4 C Shank Bit or other shorter shanked bits. The 7 1/4 inch shanks have great preload which allows very fast release when pressure is released on the reins. The loose cheeks are forgiving which can be helpful in a step-up bit. This bit has a fairly low bit-leverage ratio which aids in redistribution of weight to the hindquarters of naturally low headed horses.
Bit is shown with mouthpiece #4F. Also shown is Bozo Rogers riding NRCHA Open Bridle Champion One Smokin Chic in this bit, the #HS52 One Buckle Slot Ear Headstall with Rawhide, the #CU21 Double Buckle Leather Curb and the #CCR1 Rawhide Romal Reins.

This bit is available with your choice of 9 mouthpieces. All the mouthpieces are 5 1/8 inches wide (see picture at left). All except the #0 mouthpiece are made of steel with inlaid copper strips to promote salivation. The #0 mouthpiece is made of soft rubber. The #1 Correction mouthpiece is 3/8 inch in diameter, the remainder are 7/16 inch in diameter. Make your selection in the dropdown below.
This bit comes with the #BH51 3/8 inch Latigo Leather Bit Hobble, shown here.
How it works: Bits with aluminum shanks are milder than steel bits because of their light weight. This bit offers the ultimate in feel and control when you need a light touch but want the quick signal the 8 inch shanks provide. This is a nice switch when a horse needs a softer signal than a steel bit and it helps promote relaxation in a tense horse. It’s also great to lope in before showing. Many horses can be ridden continuously in this bit.

Double Buckle Curb Strap with Rawhide Ball #CU42
Description: This eye-catching Double Buckle Curb Strap with Rawhide Ball #CU42 is made of single ply 5/8 inch harness leather that is hand-edged, hand-rubbed, treated with Neatsfoot Oil and hand-rubbed again. Beautiful hand braided rawhide keepers and a ball knot are added to complete the look. The buckles are stainless steel. The leather beneath the buckles is hand sewn together to prevent the buckles from slipping during adjustments.
How it works: The rawhide ball gives a quicker signal than a flat leather curb as it comes in contact with the chin before the leather. The braided rawhide also gives a stronger signal than plain leather because of it’s texture. This curb may be really helpful on a horse that isn’t responding to the pull on the reins as well as it should. The rawhide ball will release very quickly once the tension on the reins is released allowing a reward for the desired response immediately.

Steel Long S Shank Bit #B3

The bit is NRCHA legal with the #4F roller mouthpiece and comes with the #BH41 Latigo Bit Hobble when the roller mouthpiece is ordered.
How it works: The length and slight angle of the shanks provides you with enough leverage for a quick response when the reins are pulled or released and will be a good step up if you need a quicker/stronger response than you are getting with a shorter shank bit.
Shown with mouthpiece 4F.
