5/8″ Nylon Lead Rope with Snap #ALR4
Description: This lead rope is made of white medium lay 5/8″ nylon rope with a stainless steel bull snap that’s hand braided/spliced in. The tail is braided back to prevent unraveling. The length is 10 feet before braiding, making it approximately 9 ft. 4 in. when it’s finished. The 5/8 inch nylon makes a good, stout, leadrope with plenty of flexibility to tie easily. You can read how to properly tie a lead rope by clicking: Take Me To Your Lead Rope.
Easy Stop #ES1
Description: The Easy Stop #ES1 is a very good piece of tack to use when you want to teach your horse to stop correctly when cued, without having to put pressure on the mouth. Often a horse will show a lot of improvement in it’s stop with just a few rides in the Easy Stop.
The noseband is made of 3/8 inch nylon rope that is specially designed to lay right from the first ride. The headstall is made of 3/4 inch dense, tight-fibered harness leather. The leather has been edged, hand-rubbed, oiled with Neatsfoot Oil and hand-rubbed again. The buckles are stainless steel and the leather beneath the buckles is hand stitched together to prevent the buckles from sliding down as you’re adjusting the headstall. This Easy Stop includes a hand-tied tan 1/4 inch nylon fiador tied to the top of the spoon so it won’t interfere with the reins.
Choice of Reins: The Easy Stop is available without reins or with these 4 best selling rein choices: #ASR6 DM Harness Leather Split Reins and #BLL6 Latigo on Latigo 3/4″ Snaffle Bit Reins are both shorter reins, 6 1/2 to 7 feet, and will work well on the smaller horse under 14.5 hands. The #ASR3 XX Harness Leather Split Reins, at 7 to 7 1/2 feet, is a good choice for the average horse, generally 14.5 to 16 hands. For a horse bigger than 16 hands I recommend my longest rein, the #ASR1 XXXX Harness Leather Split Reins. Choose your selection in the dropdown. Almost any of the reins I make will work well. If you don’t see what you need here please see the rein category. These reins can be purchased separately.
How it works: The Easy Stop noseband will apply pressure on the nose just like a hackamore or bosal. Additionally, the stainless steel Easy Stop spoon will come forward as the reins are pulled and make contact with the horse’s chin, in the space between the 2 jawbones (the intermandibular space). I carefully designed the angle of the Easy Stop spoon to function correctly and lay close enough to the horse’s intermandibular space that it doesn’t apply pressure until the reins are pulled. The edges of the spoon are smooth and have a gentle bevel so there’s nothing sharp touching your horse. This Easy Stop is designed so the spoon doesn’t flip over when there’s not any pressure on the reins.
This is used by top professional cutting, cow horse, reining and barrel horse trainers, among others, and will last through years of use. This is a real good tool to have in your tack room for those times when a horse is not responding as soon as he is being asked to stop. Your horse should be broke to give at the poll, and should be flexible both laterally and longitudinally before being ridden with an easy stop.

Braided Rawhide Barrel Reins #RR60
Description: This is a great feeling hand braided rawhide barrel racing rein. It has 4 pineapple knots for grip and 12 button and barrel knots for eye appeal. There is plenty of body and feel here to really communicate with and control your horse. The rawhide is braided on a 56 inch piece of 5/16th inch nylon cord, all done by hand by a master braider. The 5/8 inch latigo adjustment straps allow 6 inches of adjustment for a total rein length of between 74 and 8o inches. The adjustment strap ends are held in place with rawhide braided keepers. The snaps and buckles are stainless steel. This is a functional, eye-catching barrel rein.
How they work: The rawhide braided knots are very useful not only for quick grip as you turn a barrel but also to help lift and push against the neck as you raise a shoulder around a barrel. Vaqueros have been using these knots for centuries. They learned the slight pressure from the knot against the horse’s neck gets more response than just leather or rawhide alone.
Above the Hock Kick Chain #KC2
Description: The Above the Hock Kick Chain is made of 1 inch double and stitched latigo leather with a stainless steel roller buckle and dee. The 18 inch chain attached to the dee is also stainless steel.
How it works: This kick chain is worn above the hock and will not drag around the stall. This is a useful tool to use on those horses that want to kick the stall or trailer. Most horses will stop kicking after a short time with the kick chain but a small percentage will need to wear it indefinitely. This kick chain is sold as a single. If you need additional Above the Hock Kick Chains, and you may need 1 for each back leg on a horse that has been kicking the stall or trailer for a long time, please order additional in the “quantity” box below.
This is not a tool to be used for teaching horses to not kick at people.
Shown on a horse that is 15.1 hands and 1100 pounds.
Sliding Gag with Link Mouthpiece #20-50
Description: A link mouthpiece gives this sliding gag a stronger signal than the common snaffles or the twisted wire mouthpiece and is easily accepted by horses. This Sliding Gag w/Link Mouthpiece #20-50 is made with your choice of a stainless steel twisted wire crown or, for the more sensitive horse, a 3/4 inch harness leather slide ear crown piece or a 3/4 inch brow band headstall (photo at left, please see dropdown to order).
The center bar on this bit’s cheeks limits the movement of the sliding mouthpiece to provide a quicker action and instant relief. The hard lay nylon cord allows the bit to slide easily. The cord is attached to a stainless steel buckle on each side. The buckle is attached to adjustable single ply 3/4 inch harness leather cheeks (see diagram at left). The link mouthpiece is a life-saver if your horse is resistant to the pull and does not want to follow his nose through the turn. This mouthpiece gives the strongest signals of all the gag bit choices.
How it works: The simultaneous pressure on the mouth from the sliding gag bit and on the poll from the twisted, shaped, stainless steel or the leather crown increases control of the nose and improves total balancing power to produce the ultimate in vertical flexion and feel. Because your rein aids are strengthened with the gag, your leg cues given at the same time become reinforced and easier for the horse to respond to. You will be able to better concentrate on fine details of your training rather than large rebalancing or repositioning efforts regardless of your type of riding. This gag bridle is an excellent training tool for both young and older horses that need to improve flexibility and response. Your horse will learn that when it breaks at the poll the release will be instant, smooth, and consistent. Since these gags release so quickly your horse is not trapped in position while it waits for the release to occur. This helps horses stay calm and confident in training and also when they are in competition. The leather crown is designed for horses requiring less pressure on the poll than the stainless steel twisted wire crown produces. The leather crown works well with this link mouthpiece on horses that are sensitive to pressure on the poll but very resistant to giving to the bit. There is instant relief when the pull is discontinued.
The Sliding Gag is sold without reins. Any Dennis Moreland Tack split reins or roping reins will work. To select your reins visit the rein category.
If you don’t have experience with sliding gags Dennis Moreland Tack recommends you seek the help of a professional who has experience as you are learning to use them.
